Gregory’s Bio
Growing up Gregory was a reserved child, often choosing to keep to himself. He rarely smiled and kept his noise levels to a minimum. In fact, it was easy to forget he was even in a room at times until he spoke up, often to correct a point or fact he was knowledgeable about. He enjoys skipping stones, reading books, counting crows and cows at the local farm, as well as keeping a detailed journal of every dime his neighbors spent at the local grocery store.
On any given day of the week, Gregory can be found correcting people’s poor financial decisions at the store. Gregory has painstakingly memorized the regular shopping habits of most of his neighbors, often reminding them of the sales available on their most frequently purchased items. He will be quick to follow individuals to the register if he suspects they have ignored his sales advice.
While his advice is often unwanted, neighbors will admit in private that Gregory possesses an uncanny head for numbers, and will often save at least $20 on any shopping list (provided the neighbor is wise enough to heed his counsel); a fact the store manager despises profoundly.
Yet Gregory’s true talents were best revealed when he recently built a popsicle model with the help of his younger sister, Suzy. After months of buying popsicles from the ice-cream truck and placing the treats in the sun to melt (lest they catch the sugar sickness), the siblings had finally collected enough popsicle sticks to build a miniature model of their neighborhood.
Upon its completion, neighbors initially congratulated the children on their work, at which point Gregory promptly responded, “Our scaled model is for more than aesthetic.” At that point the applause stopped, due to confusion and concern.
Later that day the neighbors were surprised to find Gregory had deliberately set fire to the model. He did this with the intention that little Suzy could more accurately map out an evacuation route in the contingency that the neighborhood should ever experience such a sudden, unexpected disaster.
The neighbors called the police on the children that night. Interviewed, Gregory confessed that their research was crucial in an emergency situation. He explained that preparation was close to godliness, and seeing as two new neighbors had recently added cigarettes to their shopping lists, a test run of the worst-case scenario was more than reasonable to explore. The police has no further questions.
Despite this incident, Gregory is always kind to his neighbors. Once, a local boy was riding his bike around town and got a flat tire. Gregory appeared out of nowhere and swiftly fixed the bike within minutes, leaving the scene shortly afterward without saying a word. The boy spread the news through the school that Gregory “wasn’t half bad.”
Ever since that day, students have begun to cautiously approach him for his mechanical advice which he freely and emotionlessly provides. He helps plenty of students save money on basic repairs. The fact that Gregory has never owned or ridden a bike may be an unnerving point of interest, but children speculate he somehow learned his mechanical gifts through the power of osmosis, simply by spending hours on end hovering around the bike shop.
Of course, how Gregory feels about this is anyone’s guess, but whoever his gaze falls on should expect his kind-but-firm correction, and would be wise to listen to it — regardless of their age or authority.
